Item Description

Historic, rich old-time sylvanite and quartz small cabinet combination specimen from the famous ancient precious metal mines at Săcărâmb (Nagyag), Romania. Chains of bright silver-metallic veins of crystalline sylvanite course across the quartz-covered blocky matrix. An outstanding old-timer with a fine provenance: first in the collection of prominent French mining engineer Georges de la Bouglise (1842-1911) with his number 62 original label; the Bouglise collection came to Harvard University in 1948 (temporary Harvard label 99901); thence to John Marshall, a prominent East Coast Collector; and finally to the Shields Flynn Collection. Classic, very rich and showy old-time sylvanite from a historic locale and having a fine provenance.
