Item Description
Swiss Blue Topaz is a well-known commercial gem that dates back several decades. The material is created by taking colorless Topaz and irradiating it in order to turn it blue. Natural blue Topaz is not nearly as common on the market to fill the demand, so the irradiation process was developed to provide collectors and dealers with blue stones for jewelry. You'll find various shades of blue on the market, but the bright blue gems are still the most popular among dealers and jewelry. For reference, the irradiation method is well known in the gem trade and is not at all frowned upon, provided that people KNOW that they're buying a treated gem. This stone is virtually eye clean with a "Step Oval" cut and a soft blue color.
