Item Description
Topaz is a well-known gemstone worldwide. The material has been around for centuries, and although it's mentioned in the Bible ("topazos"), it's believed the actual gem in question could have been Peridot (which was called Chrysolite). When it comes to modern-day gem quality Topaz, we're talking about a completely different stone. Although there is a good amount of gem quality Topaz out there, a large percentage of this material is colorless. It's hard to find good natural blue Topaz in gem quality material. This demand for blue Topaz created an opportunity in the marketplace for someone to give the buyers what they wanted. Treated Swiss Blue Topaz was introduced on the market about 40 years ago, and it has been a staple for jewelry stores and gem dealers around the world. These stones made a huge splash when they were introduced, and their popularity persists today. This material typically starts out as colorless Topaz and is treated to create the intense blue color. This method is well known in the gem trade and is not at all frowned upon, provided that people KNOW that they're buying a treated gem. The color in this material is what attracts collectors. There are actually very few gems in the world with this color and this gem has a glowing blue hue. This stone is virtually eye clean with a "Brilliant Oval" cut. A great stone for a pendant or a big showy ring. Keep in mind that Topaz is the birthstone for November, so this could make a great gift for someone with a November birthday.
