Item Description

Svanbergite is a very rare strontium aluminum phosphate species, and good crystals are hard to find. The Västanå Iron Mine produced some excellent examples of the species, and this cabinet sized specimen is filled with dozens of little, translucent, orange to reddish-brown colored crystals measuring a few mm richly cover the front of the large foliated Pyrophyllite matrix. You don't see to many pieces of this size, especially with so many crystals on it. This is a rare and desirable specimen, from this this small iron mine which was active from 1804 to 1916.
Ex Colin Manlove Collection.
