Item Description
Here we have an incredibly rare Sussexite specimen featuring a 3.8 cm wide radial "spray" of tan-pink colored crystals sitting in a matrix of Franklinite, Willemite and additional Sussexite. Typically, Sussexite is found in thin fibrous form or flat almost "platy" crystals, but a complete "burst" like this is essentially unheard of! I can't remember seeing another quite like it, and I love how it is so beautifully positioned at the top portion of the specimen, which sits so beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. If you collect rarities, or minerals of Franklin, this is an important specimen simply for the fact that "sprays" of Sussexite crystals like this are remarkably hard to find. This rare manganese borate species is named after Sussex County, where Franklin is located.
