Item Description

Sussexite is a very rare borate named after the famous type localities in Sussex County - the Franklin and Sterling Hill orebodies. It occurs as veinlets and masses with a felted or matted fibrous structure, also parallel-fibrous or transverse-fibrous veinlets or as chert-like masses. This elongated, variably brown specimen is definitely chert-like in appearance and structure. This is a very rare and rich form of this uncommon varietal. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection # 1471, with a 1984 date.
