A superb compound single crystal thumbnail sulfur crystal from the famous mines at Agrigento. The sharp, blocky, lustrous, translucent orthrhombic crystal has rich lemon-yellow color and is dramatically accented by the segmented strongly hoppered top face. The crystal is jauntily set atop the complementary light brown aragonite crystal matrix. Ex Bill and Sharon Panczner Thumbnail Collection and acquired in the 1960s to 1980s. The piece is from their award winning competition thumbnails. Bill was the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject.
