Item Description

Cordierite from this locality sets the standard for the species. Unlike the ugly material from most places, it is actually pretty here - sometimes! This is the classic style, but rarely seen in an aesthetic and balanced specimen. The sharp and sharply terminated, lustrous, 4.8 x 4.7 x 4.2 cm, orthorhombic crystal has a waxy mottled-brown look to the prism and termination surfaces and attractively rests on a matrix of cordierite and quartz. The crystal is in great shape on three sides, with just one spot of termination edge wear. The contacted back is mostly out-of-sight in the fine presentation views.
