Item Description

An extraordinary matrix amethyst specimen from the Tafelkop area of the well-known Goboboseb Mts. Four stout amethyst "soldiers" are at attention, accompanied by smaller attendants and are dramatically set on the blocky matrix covered with sharp K-feldspar crystals. The sharply terminated crystals, to 5.3 cm, are transparent to translucent and have beautiful variable purple color, from rich grape-purple to pretty blush-purple. Very interestingly, the lustrous stepped-growth prism faces are glass-clear, while the termination faces are frosted with satin lustre. Two of the large amethysts are doubly terminated, along with largest side car crystal, and the skeletal features on the termination faces add even more pizzazz to this striking piece. AND, bright lighting reveals a RARE 3 mm movable bubble visible through the back face of the largest crystal below the termination. This superb, incredibly sculptural and aesthetic 360-degree specimen is essentially pristine, with only very trival wilbers to the tips of two of the large amethysts. Ex Shields Flynn Collection and illustrated on Page 90 of his 2018 self-published book, Minerals of Namibia - From the Collection of Shields and Frances Flynn. A rare, amazing and beautiful MATRIX amethyst valued at $2000-2500 and well worth it. Back lighting has fantastic color effects!
