A dramatic USA cabinet specimen: This is a special example of what otherwise is common, in small and typical quality, of the sharply twinned gypsums that formed as floaters in the Oklahoma sands, incorporating gypsum and silica in their structure as they grew to create these dense , hefty, strong shapes. I have seen thousands of them over a lifetime, and cannot recall seeing one I liked better. This is solid, robust, not fragile at all as are so many. You can see the label from Dr Bill Sanborn, one of Jack's mentors in mineral collecting in San Francisco when he joined the hobby in the 1960s (Halpern number 567, so acquired in the early 1970s from Bill!). We have all seen a lot of these...but not like this. It is simply special, even as the Sanborn label itself indicates: SUPERB large off-set perfect twinned pair of intergrown selenite, doubly terminated crystals.
