superb Gahnite ex. Hauck, Ed David, & Areson Collections

This is an outstanding single crystal of Gahnite, on matrix, that is virtually complete all around save for one small either contact or etched area. This modified octahedron has very good luster and sharp crystal form that makes it surprisingly attractive for a black mineral. Considering that many Gahnites you see referenced are small, you realize how good this 3 cm (tip to tip) crystal is. The matrix is composed of Calcite and Willemite, both brilliantly fluorescent. The classic, historic locality is a bonus. Formerly in the collections of Dick Hauck, Lee Areson, and Dr. Ed. David, all of which give this piece a fantastic provenence. Originally priced at $850 in the 1990s and well worth that and more today. This is a superb example, with great provenance from these 3 major East Coast collections!
