superb Calcite (old Scotland classic !)

Exceptional for the locality in several ways, this excellent Calcite is from the famous old lead mine at New Glencrieff in Scotland. Galena and Calcite from this mine are classics, seldom seen in quality today - few were saved at the time they came out, sadly. Many of the Calcites from here are tapered scalenohedrons, but these elongated hexagonal prisms are excellently formed nail-head Calcites. The luster is good, and the longest crystal is an impressive 4.2 cm. All the Calcites have a blazing orange fluorescence, and under just the right normal light, you can see the internal zoning and phantoms. This is a choice and aesthetic Calcite, unusual for this classic old Pb-Zn-Baryte mine in Scotland. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection, specializing in Scottish and English classics for decades. This is a superb example (note he paid $1080 for it, long ago).
