A superb, RARE and sculptural large old-time barite combination from the historic extinct iron mines at Frizington. A stunning 8.5 cm doubly terminated, lustrous, translucent, bi-colored golden-yellow to gray barite crystal with a dramatic sawtooth edge and a gem phantom chisel termination is impressively set on the striking boxwork platy matrix. A secondary 4.7 cm doubly terminated barite is a super accessory. AND the matrix is covered with VERY RARE for the locale small nailhead spar calcite rhombs. Most barites from here are associated with dolomite crystals. The outstanding large barite is nearly pristine, with only a few trivial bruises.
