Item Description
A superb and very aesthetic old-time barite specimen from the famous CARBONIA DISTRICT of Sardinia. Lustrous, glassy, parallel-growth, window pane-like, barite spearpoints are very jauntily set upright on a barite crust. Some of the lamellar "mountain peaks" have a secondary overgrowth of snow-white barite, that looks just like snow! There are more blades hidden on the back. The piece is in super shape for such thin crystals (maximum blade width is about 3 mm). The blade on the lower right is broken, but the rest of the crystals have only a bit of very trivial edgewear. Valued at $750-1000. THE BELSKY LABEL NOTED LOCALITY AS: Monteponi. NOTE THAT WE HAVE, SINCE POSTING THIS, BEEN TOLD THE OLD LABEL WE INHERITED WAS INCORRECT. THE CORRECT LOCALE HAS BEEN ADDED NOW: It comes from Sa Coronae Sa Craba ( The Crown of the Goat from Sardinian into english), a grotto close to Carbonia in the Carbonia
