Item Description

Sunstone is the term that is applied to certain kinds of warm-hued gem grade Feldspar. The common thought for years was that Sunstone was exclusively used for transparent Labradorite, but analysis has shown that the various species of Sunstone include Labradorite, Microcline, Andesine and Oligoclase which contain some kind of metallic inclusions like Hematite, Ilmenite or even Copper. Fine gems are only found in a handful on localities around the world, and India has been producing excellent Sunstones for decades. They are some of the most famous Sunstones in the world, as they come in a wide variety of colors. This stone is an "Oval Cabochon" cut gem with a lively fiery hue from Hematite (iron oxide) inclusions. It shows a lovely "shiller" on the surface when rotated in the light. These stones from India stand as some of the most recognizable and attractive Sunstones on the market today, and well worth picking up if you like gem feldspars.
