Item Description
One of the most exceptional things I have seen from the United States is Sunstone from Oregon. This material comes in a myriad of colors ranging from yellow, orange, red, green and even blue in rare cases. Aside from the the extremely rare blue variety, the most hard to find color of this material in good size stones is red. This stone has a strong red hue and really sparkles in the light. It almost reminds me of a Mexican Fire Opal due to the color and "jelly-like" internal appearance. It is a great quality, "Modified Octagon Brilliant" cut gem. Typically, many of the stones from this area have what is called a "shiller" which is a shimmer in the stone caused by minute Copper inclusions. This effect is highly sought after by collectors. This stone does have a good amount of "shiller" which shows up well in gopd lighting. It was a bit difficult to photograph and looks BETTER in person! This gem was cutt by Allyce Kosnar in November of 2010. This material is becoming very difficult to find anymore in any size or quantity, so don't miss out on this one. The high end retail value on this gem is $690. I'm sure this will end up being a great deal for one of you bidders out there, and every once in a while I like to include a larger and more valuable stone in the $10 reserve auctions as a thank you to everybody who supported us over the years. Enjoy.
