Item Description
Sunstone is gem grade Feldspar (typically Microcline or Oligoclase, and more rarely Labradorite), but most of what you seen on the market is translucent and not true gem quality. There are thousands of places of Earth that produce Feldspar, but the vast majority of it is opaque. For this reason, one of the most exceptional things I have seen from the United States is Sunstone from Oregon. This is TRANSPARENT FELDSPAR and it actually comes in a myriad of colors ranging from yellow, orange, red, green and even blue in rare cases. This stone features the classic champagne hue, which is the most common shade for the material. The gem has a "Checkerboard Oval Brilliant" cut. Typically, many of the stones from this area have what is called a "shiller" which is a shimmer in the stone caused by metallic inclusions of native copper, but this stone is notably clean.
