Item Description
Sulphohalite is a very rare sulfate species only found in five places in the world. The best and most recognized specimens are those from the type locality, Searles Lake in California. This piece is a great example of said material featuring a good sized, sharp, lustrous, silvery-golden colored octahedron of Sulphohalite with a few attached smaller secondary sidecar crystals for a nice touch. Most pieces I've seen from this locality are singles free from matrix, so to have a group like this is a significant. The piece shows a beautiful yellow color when backlit. It's complete all around, but there is a one spot of dissolution / dissolvement so there is a slight cavity on one of the crystals, but it's not damage. A really attractive and HARD TO FIND example of this obscure material. Please note: this specimen needs to be kept in a cool dry place to prevent it from disintegrating.
