Item Description
Sulphohalite is a rare mineral, and like its name suggests, is a sodium sulfate halide species. It is only found in 6 world localities (midnat.org lists 7 localities for the species, but one is questionable). Without a doubt, the best and ever found are those from Searles Lake in San Bernardino County, California. They were also the first specimens ever found. This attractive miniature specimen is a wonderful example of this incredibly rare species, featuring a gemmy, pale golden colored crystal measuring 1.3 cm, sitting on matrix. A very nice presentable specimen of his elusive species.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
