Item Description

Sulphohalite, like its name suggests is a sodium sulfate halide mineral, only found in 6 world localities (the seventh listed locality on mindat.org is questionable). The best and first specimens ever found are those from Searles Lake in San Bernardino County, California. This piece is a wonderful example of this incredibly rare species, featuring a rich group of gemmy, colorless crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, sitting on a bit of iron-stained matrix.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
