Item Description

A hard to find specimen of crystallized bright lemon yellow Sulfur on matrix from the Sulfur District in Sandoval County, New Mexico. Dozens of very sharp, lustrous, gemmy / translucent micro crystals cover the surface of the display side of this attractive and showy small cabinet specimen. This is the FIRST specimen of Sulfur that we've had to offer from the Sulfur District in the auctions, and is a very worthwhile piece for any collector of New Mexico minerals. For reference, the species should now be spelled S-U-L-F-U-R as both the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry along with the British Royal Society of Chemistry adopted this spelling in the 1990s (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfur#Spelling_and_etymology). Valued at $500. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/
