Sulfur on Aragonite (Panczner Coll.)

Stunning lemon yellow crystals and translucency, make the sulfur from this ancient Sicilian Mine very famous in the mineral world. Sadly, much of the production was smelted for everything from gunpowder to industry, though some specimens survived in miner's collections through luck more than anything. This gorgeous piece has the best and most vivid color. It is a jewel of sulfur, as far as they go. The piece is aesthetic, balanced, and has crystals to 2 cm embedded in matrix of contrasting white aragonite, also with some matrix wrapped around and intergrown with some smaller crystals. Notably, the piece is pure yellow against pure white, whereas some of them have a dark petroleum staining to them. This is a large miniature that glows in a case and is full and impactful, from the old collection of Bill Panczner, author of the still-definitive book MINERALS OF MEXICO (1987). Valued $2000.
