Item Description

When it comes to crystallized Sulfur specimens, a lot of people will probably think about the classic specimens from Sicily or the big skeletal crystals from Bolivia, but the fine quality piece from the Vodinskoe deposit in Russia don't get enough attention for their quality and gemminess. This large miniature / small cabinet specimen is a great example of this classic material featuring a group of fine saturated yellow color, sharp, GEMMY crystals sitting in a vug in matrix. The crystals have wonderful, smooth, well-formed faces, and if you look closely, you'll see that some of them are virtually WATER CLEAR. The entire crystal group measures 1.5 cm across at its widest dimension. Good Sulfurs from Russia are extremely hard to get these days – much harder to get, in fact, that old Italian ones, and a piece like this would make a great addition to any suite of native elements or Russian minerals. Don't miss out, it's the only one we have to offer right now. BETTER IN PERSON, hard to photograph or show off in the video. The piece was collected in 2015. For reference, this species should be spelled S-U-L-F-U-R (not sulphur) as both the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry along with the British Royal Society of Chemistry adopted this spelling in the 1990s (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfur#Spelling_and_etymology). Wikipedia also states that, "Sulfur is derived from the Latin word sulpur, which was Hellenized to sulphur in the erroneous belief that the Latin word came from Greek."
