Item Description

A gorgeous and showy display specimen from this well-known limestone locality in Michigan featuring a well-formed, attractive, vibrant yellow colored, doubly-terminated crystal measuring 3.2 cm, aesthetically perched atop a matrix of white/colorless Celestine crystal matrix. The Sulfur crystal glows with color when backlit, and the surface of the crystal has a gentle bit of etching, showing a slight chatoyancy, creating a very pleasing effect. No major damage that I can find. A really eye-catching example of these now hard to find pieces. The piece is accompanied by an old label from Ron Sohn Minerals, which refers to the locality at the Woolmith Quarry (an old name for the Maybee Quarry). The piece was acquired in 1979 and priced at $45, which was a fairly hefty amount for a Sulfur specimen back then, so it obviously was held in high esteem. It's worth considerably more today for the quality, aesthetics and the classic locality.
