Item Description

An exceptional, aesthetic and rich small cabinet sulfur from one of the world's longest and most geologically complex geothermal areas. Fantastic looking acute bipyramidal second generation sulfur crystals, to 1.7 cm, have dramatic orange hoppered interiors with contrasting light yellow rims. The larger crystals rest on a dense covering of smaller first generation hoppered bipyramidal crystals. Specimens from this location were quite abundant in the 1970s. However, the days when you could collect these specimens are now long past. This location is on private property & is now closed to collecting. See the 1985 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 16, No. 1. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. An outstanding and sculptural old two-generation sulfur from Steamboat Springs.
