Item Description
Single translucent, lemon-yellow Sulfur crystal with resinous luster sitting on contrasting, dark brown matrix. The sharp, well formed crystal measures 2.9 x 2.7 x 1.8. The Sulfur from this extremely old Italian location, has that classic “pop” of strong lemon color when lit. The crystal faces are complete but do show interesting surface growth detail features. The piece is in good condition with only some bruising along the top crystal edge and a small corner nick. There are some darker inclusions toward the attachment point that is natural petroleum/bitumen. Also the matrix contains numerous clear to light brown, tiny scalenohedral Calcite crystals. This Sulfur has an elegant dynamic display with good color and stark contrast that stands out against the petroleum-included matrix of aragonite. Old, probably early 1900s if not older!
