Item Description

Sugilite is a rare very complex lithium silicate and is a member of the Osumilite Group. The massive variety makes very colorful lapidary material. It should be noted that the mineral was named after Ken-ichi Sugi, but you'll find that it is almost always mispronounced as "soo-jill-ite". The proper pronunciation should be with a hard "g" as in "gorilla". Fibrous texture Sugilite is RARE, as most specimens are massive. Crystallized Sugilite is also rare. This small cabinet sized specimen features stunning shimmering chatoyant electric purple color fibrous Sugilite sitting atop grey to black host rock matrix. It is very hard to obtain specimens of this quality today. An exceptional thumbnail from the 2016-17 finds at the N'Chwaning III Mine. Valued by the previous dealer at $500.
