Sugilite (rare)

Item Description

This is an attractive full sized thumbnail sized piece of the rare species Sugilite from the famous N'Chwaning II Mine. The piece is almost a completely sold mass of gorgeous, semi-fibrous, chatoyant, vitreous purple colored Sugilite with minor matrix. That classic color immediately will grab your attention, and considering the fact that this is not a common species, it's a great combination of rarity and beauty in the mineral world. It should be noted that the mineral was named after Ken-ichi Sugi, but you'll find that it is almost always mispronounced as "soo-jill-ite". The proper pronunciation should be with a hard "g" as in "gorilla". The N'Chwaning Mines have some of the best examples of the species ever found, and are highly prized by collectors. This one came to us from a dealer's inventory that we purchased with a price tag of $300 on it.
