Item Description

A classic example of intense purple Sugilite (pronounced with a hard "g") on matrix. The species was named after Ken-ichi Sugi, and if almost always mispronounced, but should properly be said with a hard "g" as in "grand". The Wessels Mine has produced what are the finest examples of the species extant, although fine micro crystals exist from places like the Cerchiara Mine in Liguria, Italy. This piece shows actual crystals! of Sugilite, which is not common in my expierence with this material. The specimen was valued at $800 by the previous dealer, and probably worth even more today. It is accompanied with a label from the Grenier Collection.
