Sturmanite

Item Description

Sturmanite is a rare calcium iron compound sulfate species, and the finest examples of the species are found in South Africa, most notably from the N'Chwaning Mines, along with the Wessels Mine. Here is a wonderful large cabinet display specimen loaded with dozens of sharp, lustrous, translucent, rich golden colored, lenticular hexagonal crystals of Sturmanite measuring up to 8 mm, scattered all over the matrix. Some of the crystals show a bit of a bi-color appearance with more of a yellow hue on the edges and a darker golden color in the center. The vast majority of the crystals are undamaged, though there are a few tiny imperfections here and there. The crystals are best seen with magnification, and we've photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality.
