Item Description

An unbelievably hard to find specimen of the extremely rare sodium iron strontium barium titanium silicate Strontio-orthojoaquinite from the type locality in Japan! This piece came with an old hand-written label which refers to the species as "Nunagawalite", and I can't find any literature that mentions this name, but a quick Google search did produce a few hits that has this term linked with Strontio-orthojoaquinite. With that said, this full miniature sized specimen features a few glowing electric color partial crystal sections of Strontio-orthojoaquinite which according to the label are associated with Benitoite (the white mineral) and the blue-grey fibrous mineral is almost certainly the rare amphibole species Magnesioriebeckite. If you collect rarities, or minerals from the type locality, look no further than this attractive and incredibly hard to find piece from the north coast of central Japan. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8422). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
