Item Description

This is a classic, excellent and rich example of the fine, elongate, hexagonal, barrel-shaped strontianite crystals which are European classics. Most specimens are 50 years old or more, and they only turn up in old collections today. In fact, I believe they are still the best crystallographic examples of the species, even after 200 years. This piece has sharp, translucent, colorless crystals to 1.8 cm in length, on a large matrix plate of sparkly, sugary dolomite. The compound crystal is 1.7 cm long. Ex Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection and obtained in a Zurich trade in 1968.
