Item Description

Stromeyerite is an uncommon Ag-Cu sulfide and is quite rare, worldwide, in specimens. Moderately lustrous silvery-gray Stromeyerite can be seen in / on this extremely rich ore specimen from the Zmeinogorsk Mine. This old massive volcanogenic sulfide deposit was developed from 1745-1871 and examples of any species are rare from here. A historic and rich miniature, accompanied by a label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address, it dates to 1946-1957. Additionally a label from east coast collection Joseph D'Agostino states that this piece was part of the Calvert Collection (most likely John Calvert (1825-1897)).
