Item Description

Stromeyerite is a rare silver copper sulfosalt, that was named in 1832 after Friedrich Stromeyer, and German chemist at the University of Göttingen (Germany). Stromyer actually performed the first chemical analysis on the material. The type locality for the species is the Zmeinogorsk Mine in Russia, but some of the best-known examples are the specimens from the Příbram District in the Czech Republic. This piece is a fine quality matrix example of this rare species featuring a dark silvery-grey colored group of thin prismatic Stromeyerite measuring 6 mm, sitting on light pink colored Calcite matrix. The crystals are beautiful up close, and we've photographed them with a macro lens to better illustrate the quality. It's very likely that this piece is from the Alexander Mine, but without definitive proof, we're simply leaving it at Příbram. A great representative specimen of a species that it not often seen in display quality examples.
From the collection of Colin Manlove.
