Item Description
An outstanding stolzite thumbnail with large crystals from famed Broken Hill. Stolzite is a rare secondary Pb-tungstate and is a signature species from here, furnishing some of the world's finest examples of the species. Three sharp intergrown crystals, to 9 mm, are aesthetically set on the botryoidal, oxide-coated quartz matrix. The translucent yellow-gray crystals have striking adamantine to matte lustre, with some prisms accented with nifty subtle pyramidal faces. One crystal is pristine, with the other two having bruised or cleaved faces. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9787 and acquired from Dick Bideaux at the 1982 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). This remains an exceptional and classic stolzite combination thumbnail with large sharp crystals from the locale.
