Item Description
This well-known extinct Pb-Ag-Zn-W mining district is famous for sharp stolzite crystals, but excellent pieces are RARELY on the market. This very fine, aesthetic miniature cluster is dominated by the impressive, 2.9 cm pseudo-octahedral crystal. The crystals have moderate luster and are tannish-gray from a light oxide coating. The large crystal is complete all-around and is nearly pristine, with only a small bruise to the top termination. I have recently been told that these are certainly stolzite, though many former labels called them scheelite. Perhaps they are a pseudomorph. Greenish-white fluorescence. Ex Dave Stoudt and Don Boydston Collections (Don was a major collector of the 1940s-1970s and collecting buddy with Dave Wilber). The piece undoubtably dates to the 1960s or earlier. Choice, rare and highly desirable California material. This is one of the best we have ever seen. Valued at $2000.
