Item Description

Going back to the early 2000s, the Kayes Region in Mali started producing these excellent and iconic specimens of Prehnite, often associated with Epidote. Some localities had unusual and rare associated minerals, like the Diaboukara locality which is well-known for its beautiful Stilbites found with both Prehnite and Epidote. Outside of this locality, Stilbites are not often seen with either of the two staple species from the area, and outside of some trap rock localities, it's not common to find Stilbite with Prehnite from most world localities, especially in such colorful and showy display specimens like this. A 3.3 cm aggregate of lustrous, light yellow colored Stilbite (the specific species isn't known = Stilbite Subgroup) sits beautifully atop a matrix of gemmy, "water"-green colored Prehnite spheres with associated dark greenish-black Epidote underneath. The Stilbite aggregate is in great condition, but the lower portion of the specimen is a bit rough where it was removed from the pocket wall. Still one of the better examples of this material that we've had to offer from the locality in recent years, and they virtually unseen on the market today.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#9 MAL), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the coming months and years through our various platforms.
