Item Description
The various trap rock quarries in northern New Jersey are famous for their zeolite species and associated minerals. This piece comes from the lesser known Fanwood Quarry, which has produced arguably the best Prehnites "casts" after Glauberite from any locality in the state. This piece doesn't feature any Prehnite, but rather some very attractive spherical aggregates of fine orange colored Stilbite (presumably Stilbite-Ca) measuring up to 1.1 cm across, sitting on gemmy colorless scalenohedral Calcite on matrix. The Stilbite "balls" are in good shape, though a couple of the less important groups on the bottom of the piece are contacted. You don't see this color of Stilbite from many places in the New Jersey trap rocks, and this piece is fairly showy to boot. From the collection of Gerry Morvell.
