A beautifully elegant and symmetrical old-time stilbite bowtie from this classic locale, from the late 1800s era of exploration here. The pearlescent, creamy to bone-white crystals have exceptional form for the species and locale. This is one of the best quality stilbites I have seen from this important old locale! In the 1700s and 1800s, Faroe stilbite was all the rage, and unmatched by samples from elsewhere. Few documented specimens survive today. This is as good as any I have seen, and of display quality and full miniature size, to boot. The specimen is illustrated in the MINDAT locality Photo Gallery for the species. This superb old-timer has an exceptional provenance. It was first in the Clarence Bement Collection, one of the greatest mineral collectors of all-time. His collection was donated to the American Museum of Natural History in New York in 1910. It then went to the Larry Conklin Collection, a well-known New York City dealer and collector.
