Item Description

Stibnite specimens are uncommon from this abandoned antimony mine compared to others in the general area of Grosseto Province, Tuscany, Italy. The area is well-known for its excellent stibnite specimens. Intergrown dense diverging jackstraw sprays of brilliant metallic stibnite lathes comprise this very rich and showy 360-degree small cabinet specimen. The blades reach about 3.8 cm long and have a beautiful light iridescence under bright light. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008) and acquired from Vittorio Viguoli in 1977. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. Classic, rich and excellent stibnite from the locale.
