This is a dramatic and highly aesthetic display specimen from the Herja Mine in Romania, one of the premier localities for Stibnite. Going back over 100 years, this prestigious mine has been producing world-class specimens, and this piece dates back to the 1980s era of mining. A few superb quality, eye-catching "sprays" of Stibnite, composed of dozens of thin metallic silvery-grey "needle"-like crystals are artistically flaring off of a thin layer of light tan colored Siderite matrix. I've seen a handful of these Stibnite/Siderite combos in the past, but the Siderite is usually not as prominent, and didn't serve to create such a stirring, visually enticing piece like this. The Stibnite crystals measure up to 6.2 cm long, and they have bright reflective luster. A gorgeous full-cabinet sized specimen of this beloved material. Valued $2,500.
