Stibnite circa 1800s (classic old find)

A classic, old-time, Stibnite cluster from the venerable Ichinokawa Mine of Japan. The longest crystal is 7.7 cm long, and it is nicely terminated. Stibnite crystals are known for their bright luster and striations, and Ichinokawa in particular, is also know for Stibnites that can have curvature, as one of these crystals shows. There is even a light, metallic iridescence that adds to the aesthetics. Primary production from this famous locality was over by 1900, and these Stibnites were considered the world standard for many decades. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. Its historic nature, aside from the sheer age of the specimens, is reflected in how dramatically geopolitical borders have changed since these labels were created.
