Item Description
Stibnite specimens are not terribly common on the market these days from Peru, but a few decades ago (early 1980s), there were some excellent discoveries in the Raura District, which have stood up as some of the best examples of the species from any locality in the entire country. This piece is a showy and fine quality display specimen hosting several prismatic, dark silvery metallic colored crystals measuring up to 4.2 cm, free of matrix. The crystals have an almost chatoyant reflectiveness on the surface, which shimmer when you rotate them in the light. No major damage I can find, and the piece can be displayed from a few angles. Specimens like this were never abundant and are rarely available today.
From the collection of Dr. Eugene Meieran (the namesake for Meieranite), who has built up over 60 years of dedicated collecting.
