Item Description
This rich rich and showy two-sided layered crust is solid stibarsen. Stibarsen is a rare natural alloy of arsenic and antimony. The front is botryoidal and the concave back is scalloped. Both sides have nice silver-metallic luster. The old synonym is allemontite, named for the French Type Locality. This relatively obscure locality is the subject of a fine and comprehensive article in Mineralogical Record, V. 27, No. 4, 1996. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11337 and acquired from David Joyce in the Summer of 1987. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
