Item Description
This is a piece of the rare arsenic antimonide alloy, Stibarsen from this the lesser known Engineer Gold Mine in British Columbia, Canada. For years, Stibarsen was labeled as Allemontite, which is no longer a species. Additionally, you might see this material labeled with Allemontite being a variety of Stibarsen, but this is also not valid. The species is now Stibarsen, and Allemontite is an archaic / invalid term. This piece features the classic botryoidal form that is well-known from this mine with the bright silvery-grey hue on the surface and an almost "blistered" appearance in areas. The side of the piece shows what you might call a cross-section view of the piece where you can see how the mineral formed in spherical concentric layers. For the size, the piece has some density to it, as it weighs 214 grams. A great example of this classic old material. Priced at $850 in the inventory. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
