Item Description

This piece came to us with an old label from Walker's Mineral (formerly in Midtown Manhattan, New York) and states that the piece is from a place called Hont in Hungary. Hont is real a village in Nograd County, but I can't find any listings for Stephanite from this place, though the species is reported from a place called Karancs Hill, Nograd County. I don't know specifically where this piece is from, I'm assuming it's actually from Hungary, but with poor information back in the day, it could be from a different place than the label indicates. With that said, it's a superb little thumbnail with sharp, well-formed penetration twinned orthorhombic crystals, and classic gun-metal color with a rich old-time patina. Good shape overall and very attractive for an historic specimen of this beloved species.
