Item Description
This piece comes from a find dating back to the 1980s where a small discovery of the highly sought after silver sulfide, Stephanite was made at the San Cristobal Mien in Peru. VERY little of this material was available and some of the better specimens from the find are comparable to pieces I have seen from Fresnillo, Mexico, or the classic Erzgebirge District in Germany. This particular specimen is a prismatic group of sharp, lustrous, silvery metallic, somewhat striated, orthorhombic crystals creating a very attractive thumbnail specimen. The piece is in good shape for the material, despite a few imperfections, but considering how little was found, this is a good opportunity to obtain a nice overall specimen of this hard to find material. A nice representative thumbnail for a collector of Peruvian minerals, silver species, or well-crystallized metallic thumbnails.
