Stephanite (rare - excellent quality crystals)

In 2013, there was a discovery of what are the finest known example of Stephanite from the famous Porco Mine in Bolivia. This historic silver producer is literally the oldest important silver mine in Bolivia, which is saying something since we know the Spanish were mining there around 500 years ago, and the native people were certainly mining for many year prior to that. This specimen honestly made me think of the great old Stephanites from Mexico in terms of its superior quality. This piece is an attractive full-sized thumbnail specimen with a somewhat thick form. The piece is in great shape, with only very slight rough spots on the back. Some of the crystals are doubly-terminated with fine sharp, lustrous faces. A fine overall specimen of this hard to find and highly sought after material. The photos simply do not do the piece justice, as the gentle balance of narrow striations and broad metallic faces create a very good display piece. This material was very limited, and has not been found again since 2013. Priced at $950 in the inventory.
