Item Description

In 2013, there was a discovery of what are the finest known example of Stephanite from the famous Porco Mine in Bolivia. This historic silver producer is literally the oldest important silver mine in Bolivia, which is saying something since we know the Spanish were mining there around 500 years ago, and the native people were certainly mining for many year prior to that. This specimen honestly made me think of the great old Stephanites from Mexico in terms of its superior quality. Without a doubt, this thumbnail has the best luster of any piece I've seen from the mine. The form along with the bright silvery metallic appearance honestly are better than most Stephanites I have seen from any world locality. The complex modified habit of the crystals along with the general thickness make it an important and valuable specimen. The photos simply do not do the piece justice, as the gentle balance of narrow striations and broad metallic faces create a fantastic display piece. A superb example of this very limited material, which has been found again. Valued at $1,800 in the inventory.
