Staurolite twin (fairy cross) Mullane Coll.

Item Description

A superb and pristine, cruciform staurolite twin from an unknown Virginia locale. This ultra-sharp cutie is rust-red and has distinctive pseudohexagonal crystal form. Part of the crystal is hollow, as you can see the hole. They are known as "Fairy crosses". Ex Mullane Collection and comes with an older faded label. MINDAT does not list Fairfax County as a staurolite locality so it is, according to a Virginia collector who informed us, from the Fairy Stone State Park in Patrick County. Patrick County is in the southwestern park of the state.
